Info | Don Knight has a great passion for his country and Colorado Springs. He served 26 years in the United States Air Force in numerous space systems assignments and was the senior U.S. officer on the combined Russian/United States crew that activated the Y2K Center for Strategic Stability. Upon retiring from active duty in 2002, Don had received the Defense Superior Service Medal and six Defense Meritorious Service Medals. After serving his country, Don worked for the Defense Industry as the director of the Rocky Mountain Region for Orbital Sciences Corporation (originally Spectrum Astro). During his 10-year career, he served as a senior systems engineer developing operational architectures for various Department of Defense and Intelligence Community satellite systems.
Today, Don’s goal is to serve the people of District 1. A Colorado Springs resident since 1990, Don is active in his community—a community where he and his wife, Elaine, a retired United States Air Force Brigadier General, raised their three children, Alicia, Catherine and Donald. And, where Don mentored youth as a scoutmaster and soccer coach, served St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church as a Eucharistic minister and proclaimer, and spearheaded his Defense Industry companies' support of local charities and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) scholarships.
Don received a Master of Science in Computer Science from the Air Force Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science from the University of New Mexico.
