| Info | Robert E. “Teddy” Turner IV is a new face on South Carolina’s political landscape. Teddy is running for Congress because he wants to help you put America back on the right track. He will fight to get the government out of our lives and out of our markets so that we can rebuild our economy, and he will be an advocate for the core conservative principles and values which make America an exceptional country to call home.
Teddy Turner is a husband, father of three, and a resident of Mount Pleasant. A graduate of The Citadel (1985), Teddy is a high school teacher at Charleston Collegiate School on Johns Island.
For two years during the Cold War, Teddy worked as a news cameraman and editor in the Soviet Union for CNN, the cable news network created by his father Ted Turner. During this time he covered major international developments such as the Soviet war in Afghanistan, the Chernobyl disaster, and Gorbachev’s ascension. Following a near-fatal car accident, as a patient in a Soviet hospital Teddy learned firsthand just how costly socialized medicine programs can be for patients and doctors alike.
Teddy put his business degree from The Citadel to use upon his return to the States. During his business career he has worked with companies large and small. He has managed special projects, as well as sales and marketing campaigns at major broadcast companies such as Turner Broadcasting Service (TBS) and Country Music Television (CMT). He also helped organize two companies in the telecommunications, computer development and computer manufacturing industries, and later served as the chairman of a publicly traded company listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange.
Teddy moved back to the Lowcountry in 2000 to establish Charleston Boatworks, a small business located on the U.S. Navy base in Charleston. He has called the Lowcountry home since.
During the past decade, Teddy has been involved with a broad array of nonprofit endeavors, serving on the boards of entities such as St. Mary’s College of Maryland, the South Carolina Aquarium, South Carolina Maritime Foundation, and the Charleston Community Sailing Foundation. He has also worked with the Special Olympics and Para-Olympics. A hunter, fisher, and an avid outdoorsman, Teddy has helped develop and lead conservation programs throughout the southeastern United States.
The same interests in youth development and education that prompted his support of the South Carolina Maritime Foundation eventually led Teddy to work with Charleston Collegiate School, where he presently teaches high school economics. Like you, he is concerned about the quality of education available to America’s youth, and he will fight to limit the federal government’s counterproductive involvement in our school systems.
Teddy is concerned about the future of our country. He is alarmed by what he sees in Washington, and he does not believe that sending more career politicians to serve in Congress will solve our problems.
Teddy knows we need more constitutional conservatives who are willing to fight to protect and improve our quality of life serving in Congress. He does not want to just stand by and watch as the gridlock caused by President Obama’s my-way-or-the-highway style of governing forces Republicans in Congress to compromise our values. And he will work hard to defend the American way of life from the dangerous agendas of Democrats like Barack Obama, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi.
South Carolina has a unique opportunity to send Barack Obama and his allies a powerful message this year, and a vote for Teddy Turner will be a vote for change in Washington.
