InfoA fourth-generation Will county resident, Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant graduated from St. Francis Academy in Joliet before earning a Bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of St. Francis. In 2007, Jennifer completed her doctorate at Loyola University.

A life-long educator with 18 years of experience in local schools, Jennifer taught at Providence Catholic High School in New Lenox before serving as assistant principal at Nelson Prairie and Nelson Ridge Schools, and later as principal at Channahon Junior High School. Jennifer has also taught evening classes for aspiring teachers and graduate students at Joliet Junior College, University of St. Francis and Olivet Nazarene University.

In 2006, Jennifer defeated a 12-year incumbent to become the regional school superintendent for Will County. Now in her second term, Jennifer has maintained services while overseeing five straight years of budget cuts. As regional superintendent Jennifer established Lincoln School, an innovative alternative program for at-risk students which combines computer-based programming with direct instruction, counseling and service learning. She also oversaw the regional Safe Schools program, and implemented teacher development programs including Teacher Expo and Early Childhood Conference.

Jennifer’s family has owned and operated Bertino’s Auto Service in Joliet since 1957. Jennifer has also worked to understand and support the needs of local businesses as a board member for the Will County Center for Economic Development and Joliet Chamber of Commerce, and has promoted job and vocational training through the Wilco Area Career Center.

In addition to her work experience, Jennifer has volunteered her time to the Community Services Council, Troy Educational Foundation Board, and has been an active parishioner and former Parish Council President at St. Paul the Apostle Church. She is also president of Vista Learning, which provides refurbished computers to recommended students in the Will County area, and has been actively involved in the American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life” in Will County. Jennifer has also taken an active role women’s groups, as a member of the ZONTA International professional society and Delta Kappa Gamma society of woman educators, and as co-leader of Girl Scout Troop 470.
