InfoDavid Grosso is a native Washingtonian and proud resident of Brookland in Ward five. David is seeking a seat on the D.C. Council as an at-large member to represent all D.C. residents.

David attended Earlham College where he earned a degree in Philosophy. After college, David earned a J.D. from Georgetown Law and is a current member of the D.C. Bar.

Instead of working for a big law firm, David was privileged to work for D.C. Councilmember Sharon Ambrose. There he ran the Economic Development Committee and helped promote building projects and create jobs throughout the city. Later, David served as Chief Counsel to Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, joining her tireless fight for the rights of all D.C. residents. Today, he is trying his hand at the private sector, helping CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield implement President Obama’s federal healthcare reform.

David was born in Washington, D.C. and when he was a child his parents moved him and his five siblings to a farm in Northern Virginia where they learned the value of hard work and respect for the environment. He moved back to the city when he was a young teenager and lived in Petworth where his mother founded a community of religious activists; she still lives there today.

Before college, David volunteered helping refugees from El Salvador living in Honduras. David also spent a year living on $10/week as a full-time volunteer building a homeless shelter for women and children in San Antonio, TX. These times of service helped to fulfill the values of service his mother instilled in him. It was during this time of service that he met fellow volunteer, and future wife Serra Sippel, also a native Washingtonian.

David’s life of service is rooted in his love for D.C. Lately, the city has faced budget and ethical challenges that concern him deeply. The city has come a long way since nearly going bankrupt in the 1990s, but D.C. residents know we can do better.

David is running for an at-Large seat on the D.C. Council to reform city budgets and ethics, to continue the city’s school reform efforts, to spread smart economic development, to create both jobs and careers, and to make D.C. residents safer and healthier. D.C. may be the nation’s capital, but it’s our hometown, and David knows we can make our city an even better place – a better D.C.
