InfoDenis Paradis was first elected Member of Parliament for Brome-Missisquoi in the February 1995 by-election and re-elected in June 1997 and in November 2000.

On January 15, 2002, he was named Secretary of State (Latin America and Africa)(Francophonie).

He has also served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and to the Minister for International Cooperation and Minister responsible for La Francophonie.

In February 1997, he was elected Chair of the Quebec Liberal Caucus.

Denis Paradis has held a number of positions in Parliament, including those of Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts; Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Health; Vice-Chair of the Standing Joint Committee on Official Languages; Vice-Chair of the Special Joint Committee to amend Section 93 of the Constitution Act, 1867 concerning the Quebec School System and the founding chair of the Canada-Belgium Inter-Parliamentary Group.

A partner in the law firm of Paradis-Poulin, Mr. Paradis was called to the Quebec Bar in 1976. He also taught agricultural law for the Quebec Bar Association from 1978 to 1982. He was President of the Association of Lawyers outside Major Urban Centres in 1983, Vice-President of the Quebec Bar Association in 1992, and President in 1993-94. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada.

Mr. Paradis studied at the University of Ottawa (B.Comm., 1970; LL.L, 1975). He is a co-author of Régles de procédure devant les tribunaux administratifs (1985).
