InfoErnest F. Charbonnet, an attorney, was selected as Interim District “E” Councilmember on July 26, 2012. For over twenty-five years, Charbonnet has maintained a private law practice handling a variety of cases in state and federal court. Committed to improving the quality of life in New Orleans, he has served on the Economic Development Committee of the Eastern New Orleans Neighborhood Advisory Council (ENONAC) and has been at the forefront of legal battles that have protected the interests of residents and neighborhoods. Charbonnet frequently donates his time and services to non-profit organizations such as the Friends of Joe Brown Park.

Mr. Charbonnet attended St. Augustine High School and received a degree in accounting from Xavier University and a law degree from Loyola University Law School. While in law school, Charbonnet worked in the personal injury divisions of Allstate and Travers insurance companies and was a law clerk for the City Attorney’s Office.

Mr. Charbonnet began his law career as an Assistant City Attorney assigned to Traffic and Municipal Courts. He was a member of the City’s Legislative State Lobbying team working under Mayors Dutch Morial and Sidney Barthelemy. Charbonnet is a member of the New Orleans and American Bar Associations.
