InfoTodd Mielke has always believed there’s no substitute for honesty, hard work and common sense. With this philosophy, he has worked tirelessly as a champion for small business and the traditional values that are so important to the people of Spokane County.

Five generations of the Mielke family have called Spokane home. Born and raised on Spokane’s north side, Todd was educated in Spokane public schools and attended college in the Inland Northwest. As the son of a policeman, he understands the importance of public safety and holding people responsible for their actions.

Mielke has always had a deep interest in public policy and was quickly recognized as an energetic, effective voice in the Spokane community and in the state legislature. He is unapologetic about his support for business and the free enterprise system. While a staunch fiscal conservative, he is known for his pragmatic, common-sense approach and ability to work with members of both political parties.

From 1990 to 1995, Mielke served as a State Representative and was named a National Legislator of the Year by the National Republican Legislator’s Association. He is credited with championing welfare reform, placing limits on the growth of government, sponsoring a health care reform package, and negotiating the largest legislatively-sponsored tax cut in Washington’s history.

Throughout the time Mielke served in the Legislature, he owned and operated an excavation business in the Spokane area. He knows first-hand the challenges of increasing overhead costs and the impact of government regulations.

After leaving the Legislature, Mielke worked as the Northwest Regional Director of State Government Affairs for Johnson & Johnson. He represented nearly 70 J&J domestic companies in six different states.

In 1997, Mielke founded Pacific Communication Strategies, a government affairs consulting company, representing clients ranging from Fortune 500 corporations to individuals seeking assistance with state agencies. Its primary focus has been to champion issues at the state level that have benefited the Spokane area, such as funding for infrastructure improvements, like the widening of I-90, the Evergreen Interchange, the Geiger rail spur, and the North Spokane Corridor.

Mielke has also worked to ensure that local higher education institutions are able to meet future needs of students by securing funding for a host of facilities throughout the area.

Mielke is the proud father of his daughter, Ciara. He has been involved in a number of community organizations, has coached soccer for Spokane Youth Sports, and has been a classroom volunteer in Spokane public schools.
