| Info | Instead of having someone write a biography, I will not avoid the first person.
I was born in the Northridge Hospital and came up through the Los Angeles Unified School District graduating from North Hollywood High School in 2003. I finished with a B.S. in Ecology, Behavior, and Evolution from UCLA where I published a scientific paper on ants, refereed intramural sports, and took the bus to Westwood from Chatsworth during my last year to save money.
My experiences are broad, but don't include making back room deals with developers and other City Hall Insiders. I have worked as a teacher and entrepreneur in South Korea, China, and India demonstrating my versatility and ability to learn quickly. I have been a a field biologist at the University of California system where my attention to detail yielded a scientific paper. I have worked extensively in both the solar and the healthcare industry.
I initially got engaged with Los Angeles City Government by making public comment during City Council Meetings. Once I realized City Council meetings have devolved into rhetoric filled dog and pony shows where items are passed on consent when the public isn't paying attention -- I got involved with Neighborhood Councils.
The Neighborhood Council System is a robust form of local government that has evolved into a network of thousands of civic minded volunteers looking to make government more responsive and effective. I have grown from being a citizen using public comment to vent frustration at an inefficient, incompetent, and self-interested City Council to a well informed member of the public that understands where the political pressure points are and the network of powerful interests that steer City Hall.
Being 27 years old and not being a certified public accountant, one of the questions that I regularly get is What are your qualifications to be City Controller?
If you click around this website you will see that I have a powerful understanding of the budget, have thoroughly analyzed the audits and reports that the past City Controllers have published, and most importantly, am not going to pull punches when it comes to the institutionalized corruption that has our tax dollars benefiting the politically connected over the broader public.
