| Info | Ron was raised on a farm along Route 54 between Fenwick Island and Selbyville. He grew up just down the street from "Hit the Deck Patio", also located on Rt. 54. Ron remember's his youth as a "simpler time", where his father would often joke about how few cars were on the streets. He remembers his family working hard daily on the farm; while looking forward to the weekends spent eating farm fresh home cooking on the boat. "A wonderful, American, Delaware childhood." Is the way he put it. Ron also remembers the neighbors of his childhood that helped build the community that we all live in today. With Ron's father, and grandfather, both having served this area as state representatives, Ron has grown up hearing local stories of hope and concern regarding many issues related to us here in the 38th District.
Ron graduated from Indian River High School and moved away for a short period. He earned a degree in civil engineering from the University of Delaware and an MBA from Indiana University where he met his wife Candice. He worked for a civil engineering firm for awhile and then Bell Telephone in Philadelphia and Wilmington before returning home to Sussex County in 1990. Sussex county was his home, and after his father's passing it was time to move back home to raise a family and take over the business Shady Park Mobile Home Park that his father started later in life.
After watching his father suffer the uncertainties of farming and the loss of his livelihood when Purina Chows let go of his father, he knew it was time to diversify. Ron now operates several businesses including Shady Park Inc., West Fenwick and Mason Dixon Car Washes and West Fenwick Self Storage. He also owns the civil engineering firm, R.E. Gray & Associates.
Ron also volunteers his time to help better our community. He has been active in volunteer organizations including Indian River Soccer Boosters, Ocean City Recreation, and Lower Sussex Little League.
