Info | Images of Senator LeahyIn his fifth term in the Senate, Patrick Leahy remains the only Democrat elected to this office from Vermont and the youngest Senator ever to be elected from the Green Mountain State. Born and raised in Montpelier, he is a graduate of Saint Michael's College in Colchester (1961) and earned his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center (1964). He served for eight years as State's Attorney in Chittenden County. He gained a national reputation for his law enforcement activities and was selected (1974) as one of three outstanding prosecutors in the United States. Leahy chairs the Judiciary Committee and is also a senior member of the Agriculture and Appropriations Committees.
Senator Leahy has been married to Marcelle Pomerleau Leahy for 37 years. They have a daughter, two sons, two daughters-in-law and a grandson. Senator and Mrs. Leahy live on a tree farm in Vermont.
