Info | Doug is a second generation native of the East Valley who has both lived and worked in Mesa and Apache Junction his entire life. Doug and his wife Roxanne have been married for 32 years. They have 6 daughters, 3 sons-in-law, and 7 grandchildren.
Awards
Doug has been the recipient of the the Cox Communications and East Valley Partnership's 2002 Excellence in Leadership Award, as well as the Apache Junction News' Citizen of the Year for 2006. His Recognition with the Boy Scouts of America includes Eagle Scout (1973), Mesa District Award of Merit (1985) and the Grand Canyon Council's Silver Beaver Award (2006).
Volunteer Work
Doug and his family love being part of the community in Apache Junction, and he has served the community as a volunteer for many years. He is currently serving on a Residential Advisory Committee for Salt River Project and as the Vice Chairman of the Superstition District of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Doug is an Eagle Scout and a recipient of the prestigious Silver Beaver award from the Mesa District of the BSA in recognition of his many years of service to the BSA organization.
Hobbies
Doug has many hobbies and other interests. Doug has trained for and run the Lost Dutchman Marathon, Salt Lake Half Marathon, Mesquite Nevada Tri-State Marathon, and the Disney Half Marathon. He earned his HAM radio operating license in 1993 with call sign KI7LP. He also enjoys doing tricks with his yo-yo and is an official Duncan Yo-Yo Champion.
Education and Professional Life
Doug grew up in Mesa, Arizona and graduated from Westwood High School. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Business, Office, and Distributive Education from Arizona State University in 1981 and a Master's degree in Vocational Education from Northern Arizona University in 1989.
Doug currently teaches Constitutional Law at Apache Junction High School, where he has taught for 31 years. He has also taught Business, Accounting, Small Business Management and Entrepreneurship. He serves as a faculty advisor to the high school's branch of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) organization. He also previously coached the Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country teams and the Girls Junior Varsity Basketball team.
