| Info | Michael Powell, age 57, is a strategic thinker who has the ability to bring people together and develop solutions to address a wide variety of needs. Michael is married to Patricia, who is a Registered Nurse and medical case manager. They have been married for seven years.
While with the City of Avondale, he developed 42 successful grant proposals that addressed economic development, infrastructure improvement, neighborhood concerns, and community policing improvements. He has also trained both municipal and business employees for six years in a wide range of employee issues and skills.
For six years Michael trained volunteers to work with abused and neglected children as officers of the court, ensuring that these children did not get forgotten by the child abuse system. His work experience gives Michael the practical experience of understanding how government works, what doesn’t work, and the ability to recognize the difference so that government policy can be effectively designed and government services can improve.
Michael has taught U. S. and Arizona Constitution classes, leadership training, introductory economic courses, public speaking, psychology, English, and interpersonal communications courses at three different colleges over a 14-year period. He has worked to improve adjunct faculty professional development to improve teaching and learning for new and re-entry college students. Michael has a Master’s degree in Organizational Management from University of Phoenix. Michael earned a second Master’s degree in Conscious Evolution from The Graduate Institute. He also has a graduate certificate from Arizona State University in Public Management and a graduate certificate from Fielding Graduate University in Integral Studies. His background has trained him to see and work with a number of diverse perspectives and approaches to solve problems. Michael has the leadership ability to synthesize these various perspectives into more effective approaches and help others gain new insights and applications.
