InfoI love Southeast Alaska. Its people, places, and traditions have always been the threads of my life.
I was born and raised in Sitka and have always immersed myself in the community. When I was 13, I organized Howard Dean's presidential campaign for Alaska and have since done political work at the national, state, and local levels. As a high school student, I reached the rank of Eagle Scout and participated as a cross-country runner, musician, and debater for Sitka High School.

After graduating from Sitka High School, I studied public policy at Yale University out east. Yale was different from home in a lot of ways, but I found a lot of good people there and the school provided me with tools for work in public service. When I returned, I founded a fully-funded multidisciplinary residency called the Sitka Fellows Program (sitkafellows.org).

I've worked as a substitute teacher, a deckhand on a troller, public policy wonk for various non-profits and the City of Sitka, and manager of Sitka's recycling program.

I believe in both a healthy mind and a healthy body. I run competitively and enjoy the challenge of distance running. I find peace in the mountains and ocean of Southeast Alaska and can't imagine living anywhere else. While I spend much of my free time in the backcountry of Baranof Island, two years ago a friend from Haines and I summited the highest unclimbed peak in the Western Hemisphere, El Muertito, a 21,000-foot mountain in the Chilean Andes. I find great satisfiaction in taking on challenges and deeply believe in the value of a tenacious work ethic.

I'm lucky to be from Sitka and from Southeast. I love where I'm from -- we live in a truly special place. I want to make it better. I hope you'll join me.
