Info | Freeholder Steven A. Tanelli was elected to the Bergen County Board of Freeholders on November 6, 2012 to a three-year term.
Freeholder Tanelli served as Chair of the Freeholder Board in 2016 and as Vice Chair in 2015.
Freeholder Tanelli is Chair of the Parks Committee and Public Works Committee, and is a member of the Budget Committee.
Mr. Tanelli takes a different approach to governing, one that is built on personal contact, win-win resolutions and positive results that leave residents with a renewed confidence in their elected officials.
A lifelong resident of New Jersey, Mr. Tanelli was elected to the North Arlington Mayor & Council to fill an unexpired term in November of 2004. He was subsequently reelected by large margins in 2005, 2008 and 2011. He resigned on January 2, 2013 to assume the office of Bergen County freeholder.
Born in Newark, Freeholder Tanelli is a North Arlington homeowner who resides with his wife Sharon and three sons. A former Little League and Recreation Basketball coach, Tanelli is a former Director and member of the North Arlington Recreation Commission.
During his nine-year tenure as councilman, Freeholder Tanelli served as council president as well as acting mayor. He also served as liaison to the North Arlington Police Department and Board of Education.
Dedicated to keeping North Arlington small, safe and suburban, Tanelli authored the successful municipal referendum that vastly restricted the usage of eminent domain seizure, the process in which government can seize private property.
An original opponent of the controversial housing project known as EnCap, Tanelli fought for shared services, pay-for-play legislation and transparency in North Arlington’s local government while stabilizing the Municipal Tax Rate.
Freeholder Tanelli is employed as a senior art director for Movado Group Inc. in Paramus.
Active in several charitable organizations including Multiple Sclerosis, Freeholder Tanelli is a Eucharistic Minister, usher and Holy Name Society member with Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish located in Lyndhurst.
