InfoChris Perkins, a small businessman, is a retired Colonel and former Green Beret who has lived in Fairfax County since 1991.

Chris was born in Burlington, Vermont, one of four children. His father was a medical student who, upon graduation, joined the United States Navy Medical Corps. The family moved to the Washington D.C. area when his father was assigned to Bethesda Naval Hospital. After subsequent Navy tours in California, his father left the service and went into private practice in a small town in Massachusetts. Chris attended Attleboro High School where he played soccer and tennis. Chris subsequently attended Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA from which he graduated with a B.A. in English in 1978.

Prior to finding his true calling of military service, Chris signed onto an offshore commercial fishing boat and spent the next four years working in that industry in Cape Cod, MA.

Chris enlisted in the Army in November of 1981, and after attending the Officer Candidate School, attended Airborne School and became a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry. After being promoted to Captain, Chris volunteered for Ranger and Special Forces training.

While serving our country, Chris received numerous honors including being awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his role in an attempt to rescue a downed aircrew during Operation Desert Storm.

Chris' career as a Green Beret included command of multiple Special Forces A-Teams and operational missions in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Southwest Asia. His operational assignments culminated with command of a Special Forces Battalion of over 600 men and service during multiple tours as a military liaison to Congress, including service as the Director of Legislative Affairs for the United States Special Operations Command.

Chris is a Distinguished Honor Graduate of the United States Naval War College, where he was awarded a Masters Degree in National Security Affairs, and holds a second Masters Degree in Strategic Studies after attending the National War College in Washington D.C.

After retiring from the Army as a full Colonel in 2006, Chris was hired by the United States Coast Guard to help establish a maritime quick reaction force to secure our nation's coastline. He is currently self-employed as a defense consultant helping small businesses provide our deployed troops with cutting edge equipment and services. Chris is also very active with the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, a 501(c)3 charitable organization that provides educational benefits to the surviving children of fallen special operators.

He met his wife, Petra, during the first of four tours of duty in Germany. Chris and Petra first moved to the 11th District of Virginia in 1991, and they are the proud parents of two children, Alex and Nick. Alex is a graduate of Virginia Tech, and Nick is in his fourth year as a cadet at West Point where he is active in the lacrosse program. In May of 2004, Petra achieved a perfect score on the State Department's citizenship test and became a U.S. Citizen. They live with their two large dogs in Lorton, VA.
