InfoWilliam Edward "Bill" Bloomfield, Jr.

Bill Bloomfield was born in Los Angeles and has lived in Southern California nearly his entire life, growing up in the Santa Monica Canyon and Pacific Palisades where he attended California public schools. His four years of scouting culminated with the attainment of the rank of Eagle Scout in 1965. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of California Berkeley and earned his MBA from Harvard by the age of 22.

Upon completion of his schooling, Bill took a job at Web Service Company, a family-owned operator of commercial laundry equipment. He assumed increasing levels of responsibility there, eventually becoming President and CEO. During his 33 year tenure at Web, Bill guided the company to increase sales fifteen fold and triple the number of employees, creating hundreds of new jobs. The firm became the industry leader in the nation under Bill’s leadership.

Bill founded another business, an internet hosting company called Web.com, where he served as President from 1998 until 2005. Bill is Chairman of a real estate firm and serves on the board of two other small companies.

In addition to his extensive business experience, Bill has been an active community leader. He served as a member and President of the Rotary Club of Westwood Village and is currently President of the Manhattan Beach Rotary Club. He is a member of the Arch Klumph Society of the Rotary Foundation and served on the Board of the UCLA Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation.

Bill has always been passionate about the importance of education. He serves on the Board of Junior Achievement of Southern California, which gives young people essential financial skills. He also serves on the board of the Orange County High School for the Arts, which is a charter school. Bill is a significant supporter of Students First, a national education reform organization led by Michelle Rhee, former Washington, D.C. Schools’ Superintendent.

Bill has contributed both his time and resources to a number of other initiatives.

He helped found Healing Hands of Joy, a group dedicated to improving women’s maternal health in Ethiopia.

Bill also founded Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse in the South Bay to fight frivolous lawsuits that cost jobs and increase costs for consumers. He serves on the Board of the Criminal Justice Legal Foundation which advocates for the rights of crime victims. Additionally, Bill created a program for the City of Santa Ana which helps fight gang violence by offering rewards for information in gang-related homicides.

In an effort to raise awareness of tobacco-related public health issues, Bill and his father put up an anti-smoking billboard on Santa Monica Blvd. in Westwood that counts the number of smoking deaths each year. The billboard has become a local landmark and has been funded completely by the Bloomfield family for the past 25 years.

Bill was an important supporter of two recent successful statewide political reform movements: 1) the effort to take redistricting out of the hands of politicians, giving the responsibility to an independent, non-partisan commission and 2) the initiative to create open primaries, allowing all voters the ability to vote in all primaries, regardless of party affiliation. He is also one of the co-founders of No Labels, a national organization dedicated to reducing excessive partisanship in Congress.

Bill currently resides in Manhattan Beach, and importantly, is the proud father of three children – a college student, a deputy district attorney, and an advertising copywriter – and loves to spend time playing with his four grandchildren.
