InfoGene Wu is a Prosecutor in the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and a dedicated community leader. As a prosecutor, Gene has sought justice for thousands of crime victims throughout Harris County. In the community, Gene has devoted countless hours tutoring at-risk youth in programs at Sharpstown High School, mentoring adults in the Skills for Living program, and conducting monthly workshops for residents seeking US citizenship.

As State Representative, Gene will continue his passion for public service to ensure parents and schools have the support they need in the legislature, communities have a fighter for public safety, and the economic engine of Southwest Houston has a supporter for continued growth.

Life in Southwest Houston

Gene moved with his family from Odessa, Texas in the late 1980s to Southwest Houston. He first settled in the Parkgreen Apartments next to the Sharpstown Golf Course. Later, after saving for a home, Gene and his family settled on a small house in the Crane Park neighborhood. Today, nearly 25 years later, Gene and his family all still live and prosper in Southwest Houston.

A Strong Texas Education

Growing up, Gene attended Ed White Elementary and Fondren Middle School. After high school at St. Thomas Episcopal in Meyerland, he went on to Texas A&M University, where he graduated with a degree in Natural Resource Management. It was during his college years that Gene began developing a love of public service and protecting the community.

Following that passion, Gene went on to the LBJ School for Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. During his time there, Gene was awarded with a fellowship at the Texas Workforce Commission to improve community college and technical school standards. After his graduation from UT with a Master’s degree in Public Policy, Gene became the Chief Clerk for the House Higher Education Committee for the Texas Legislature.

Inspired by his own father’s graduation from law school at nearly age 50, Gene continued his education at the South Texas College of Law in Houston. He was then able to combine his passion for public service and law degree by joining the Harris County District Attorney’s office. Since then, Gene has had the honor of seeking justice for the residents of Harris County.

A Bond with the Community

Gene not only serves the community full time as a prosecutor, but he is also a dedicated volunteer in his spare time. Gene is currently the President of the Houston 80-20 Political Action Committee and a Board member for the community advocacy organization OCA Greater Houston. He is a mentor and teacher for adults in the Skills for Living program, and regularly tutors at-risk youth in the Grad-Lab and Twilight programs at Sharpstown High School. For the past five years, Gene has been a volunteer and trainer for Neighborhood Centers Inc. In that capacity, he conducts monthly workshops where he has helped several thousand Harris County residents become United States citizens over the years.

Dedication to Public Service

Gene’s inspiration to seek elected office is based on his desire to serve and protect his community. From an early age, Gene was instilled with the philosophy that you must place the community’s good before your own. Gene has demonstrated this ideal in nearly every aspect of his life.

We now ask you to support Gene. Support a person who demonstrates the best qualities of our community, and support a leader who will make Southwest Houston a better place to live.
