Info | LOU WALKER, Commissioner, Super District 7, was elected to the board of commissioners in a special election in August 2000. A long-time community activist, Commissioner Walker has lived and worked in the south DeKalb community for more than 25 years.
In 1981, Commissioner Walker founded DeKalb-based Paragon Productions, Inc. Paragon provides a broad range of services including public relations, advertising, and marketing; business management and technical assistance; conference and event planning; and film and video production. Serving as part owner and president, Commissioner Walker shares daily operations with his wife and vice president, Theresa Walker
Under Commissioner Walker’s direction, Paragon:
· Organized numerous small business outreach programs designed to generate awareness of contract opportunities available with the many departments of Atlanta City Government..
· Designed and implemented the Surety Bonding Technical Assistance Program for the City of Atlanta.
· Provided consultant services for the Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Contract Compliance; Purchasing; and Hartsfield International Airport.
Acting professionally for more 30 years, Commissioner Walker has been featured in more than 65 feature films and made-for-television movies. A few of his most recent credits include: Remember the Titans, The Firm; My Cousin Vinny, Academy Award nominated Mississippi Burning and In The Heat of the Night.
In addition to serving the citizens of Super District 7 and operating his own business, Commissioner Walker also serves as:
· Chairman and founder, Georgia Black Chamber of Commerce (GBCC) www.accessatlanta.com/community/groups/gbcc; an organization founded by the commissioner in December 1996.
Chairman, Association of Minority Chamber of Commerce Executives (AMCCE); a national organization consisting of African-American, Hispanic, Asian and Native American chamber CEOs form across the United States.
· Member, board of directors, Atlanta Workforce Development Board, Inc.
· Member, DeKalb NAACP
· Member, national board of directors, National Black Chamber of Commerce (NBCC), www.nationalbcc.org; a trade association consisting of 157 affiliate local chapters representing more than 52,000 black owned businesses.
· Eastern & Southern division head, NBCC.
