InfoPreston Brittain is a family man with deep roots in Horry County running for US Congress in the new 7th Congressional District. Preston is not a career politician but a person with the energy, faith, commitment, and independence to make a difference for people. Preston believes deeply in our entire community and has seen members of our cities and towns struggle. He is running for Congress because he understands the first step to recovery is creating the good-paying jobs the middle class needs. He is committed to working tirelessly to rebuild our economy and to fulfill our potential by getting folks back to work.

Born in Texas while his father Tommy was in the Army stationed at Fort Hood, Preston was named after his grandmother’s brother, William Preston Casey, who lost his life in WWII when his plane was shot down over the Philippines. After his military career ended his dad moved the family back to South Carolina where the Brittains have lived for five generations. The family returned to Horry County where Tommy started his own law practice and where Preston’s grandfather, the Reverend Thomas N. Brittain, “Big Tom,” ministered at the First United Methodist Church.

Preston’s father and grandfather taught him at an early age the importance of standing up for what is right. Growing up, one of Preston’s earliest memories is of his father “carrying the heartaches of his clients,” showing Preston by example that people and causes can be uplifted by the hard work of someone who cares and fights on their behalf. Inspired by his father’s example, Preston decided to follow in his footsteps and become an advocate for people.

Preston was educated in the Horry County Public Schools, and he went on to graduate from Myrtle Beach High School, Wofford College and the University of South Carolina School of Law. Following law school, Preston clerked for the Honorable Terry L. Wooten, Federal Judge of the United States District Court in Florence. Humbled by the opportunity, he learned quickly the importance of applying hard work to public service to give back to his community.

Preston married Elizabeth Dunbar Brittain in 2008, and they returned to Horry County to create a home. He currently practices law to promote the values he learned from his father and grandfather to fight for what is right on behalf of the place he loves. He plans to bring that work and fight to Washington and is willing to work with anyone who is committed to getting our community back to work.

Preston is a Trustee at the Will Andrews Foundation and at the Oceanview Memorial Foundation, which provides scholarships to academically talented local high school students. Preston and Elizabeth are active members of the First United Methodist Church where Preston served on the Finance Committee.
