InfoAileen Carroll was first elected to the House of Commons in 1997. She was re-elected in the 2000 and 2004 general elections. Ms. Carroll was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in September 2001 and appointed Minister for International Cooperation in December 2003.

Ms. Carroll has served as a member of the Standing Committees on Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Environment and Sustainable Development, Justice and Human Rights, and Health. During her first term in Parliament, Ms. Carroll chaired the Government Caucus on the Environment and Sustainable Development and was elected Vice-Chair of the non-partisan Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association, a position she held until she was appointed to cabinet in 2003.

Prior to her election to the House of Commons, Ms. Carroll was an Alderman in the City of Barrie and was, for many years, a partner in a small manufacturing and retail business.
She has served as Chair of the St. Joseph’s Private High School Board, Chair of the Barrie Public Library Capital Campaign, and as Honourary Chair of the United Way of Simcoe County 2000 campaign. For the past several years, she has led a very successful local awareness campaign for organ and tissue donation, and has been a volunteer with such organizations as Out of the Cold and Hospice Simcoe.

Ms. Carroll is a graduate of St. Mary’s and York Universities. She and her husband Kevin Carroll, Q. C., have two children.
