InfoKamala Emanuel, a 32 year-old Family Planning and Aboriginal Health doctor, has been involved in the pro-choice campaign to remove all reference to abortion from the criminal code and expand access to free, publicly funded abortion services in Tasmania's north and south.

"For the millions, not the millionaires" is Socialist Alliance's election campaign slogan. The newest party contesting the state elections, were committed to campaigning to benefit workers, women, refugees, Aboriginal people and all those marginalised by business-as-usual politics that defends the rule of the rich. For example, public ownership of the insurance industry would solve the insurance crisis. Health is just one sector adversely affected by the profit-driven insurance industry holding us to ransom. Consolidating the whole insurance industry into one publicly-run entity would enable it to be run for people not profit, and allow the community to get on with social life without the fear of crippling legal suits.

Further, income protection and expanded health care would take away individuals' need for legal action in the event of a mishap. Regardless of fault, society should guarantee the well-being and protection of all. Pay for it by taxing the rich.
