InfoMarcus Richmond was born May 4, 1956, in Mena, Arkansas. His mother Dorris met and married his father Merl in California during World War II. Marcus’ parents returned to Scott County after Merl was wounded in Europe and started a successful dairy farm.

Marcus graduated from Waldron High School and enlisted in the Arkansas National Guard. Upon completion of training, he returned to Arkansas and enrolled in Arkansas Tech University. He graduated from Tech in 1978 and accepted a commission as a Second Lieutenant, United States Marine Corps and rose to the rank of Lt. Colonel before his retirement in 1998.

Marcus married his wife of 33 years that same year and they now have two grown children, Miranda and Shane, and one grandson, Finn, who just turned one. Like any American family, the Richmond’s have faced difficulties. There were many times during Marcus’ Marine Corps career that he would leave in the morning and return six months later. It takes a strong woman to endure the hardships and sacrifices required by military life, and Marcus credits his wife and her devotion for his successful military career.

Upon retirement from the Corps, Marcus worked both in private and public schools as a football coach, administrator and alternative education teacher. In 2001, he was asked to join a new company that was beginning to enjoy expanding growth. He agreed and assumed the duties as the Director of Operations for America’s Pet Registry, Inc. A few years later, he and his wife bought the business and have continued its growth from a small, relatively unknown regional company to the third largest registry service in America.

As President and CEO, Marcus is most proud of how APRI has provided rural small businesses a voice to fight liberal special interest groups who target the property rights of rural Americans.
