Bill Casey has an extensive business background.
He built and operated two tourist restaurants and gift shops. One in Nova Scotia and one in New Brunswick.
He owned and operated Bill Casey Pontiac Buick and Bill Casey Ford Mercury with outlets in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick for 18 years. He was awarded the Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award for Canada in 1987 for exemplifying high standards. Awarded once a year, this is the highest award for a car dealer in Canada.
Mr. Casey has organized, financed and managed a manufactured house factory in Amherst that had dealerships in all four Atlantic provinces. By supplying houses for all provinces, he became aware of the inter-provincial regulations that thwart trade, and the challenges of transportation in Atlantic Canada. Mr. Casey worked in co-operation with Nova Scotia Research and the National Research Council in developing a low cost house for world markets. He used trade offices in New England to gain access to U.S. markets and trade offices in Great Britain to access European technology and manufacturing methods to develop a line of travel trailers.
Bill Casey was first elected to the House of Commons in 1988. After the 1993 election, Casey became a Financial Advisor and Stock Broker with Midland Walwyn Capital Corporation, where he operated the Amherst, Nova Scotia office.
Casey regained his former seat in the House of Commons in the 1997 election with an 8,000 vote majority. In July, he was appointed Transport Critic for the P.C. Party where he worked diligently as one of Cumberland Colchester's most dedicated toll-busters.
Casey was re-elected in 2000 and was appointed critic for Foreign Affairs and International Trade. In that capacity he acted not only as an Opposition critic, but also as an activist for diplomacy in troubled regions of the world. He has since been appointed Deputy Whip of the Conservative Party of Canada.
In June of 2004 Bill Casey was re-elected to become the first Member of Parliament for the new federal riding of North Nova.
Bill Casey is married. He and his wife Rosemary have three children: Michael, Holly and Allison.
