Info | Donna Cridland has over 28 years experience in the financial industry. She grew up in a small town in Northwestern Ontario, then her career took her to the GTA for the last 23 years. She now lives in Port Colborne, on lake Erie. As a fly fishing enthusiast and now fishing lodge owner, Donna has a great respect for Ontario’s precious resources. She was compelled to run as a candidate in the upcoming provincial election because of the urgent need for Ontario to shift to sustainable principles.
Donna completed a Bachelor of Science Degree from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay. Afterwards, she began her career in banking. As a branch manager, Donna gained valuable years of experience and a deep understanding of listening to needs of others and finding the solutions that work the best. In headquarters, Donna’s leadership and contributions were through projects focused on cost reductions. Recently, to better understand the small business owner, Donna completed an Introduction to Entrepreneurship course at Ryerson.
Donna draws on her many years of business and people skills to provide outdoors experiences to guests at her fishing lodge. Donna and her co-owners are proud of their efforts to move the lodge toward environmental sustainability. Most notable is the solar system installed to reduce propane use.
Donna joined the Isaac Walton Fly Fishing Club and volunteered her time as their conservation chair for 2 years. Many projects were completed with partners such as Credit Valley Conservation Authority, Ministry of Natural Resources, Muskies Canada and chapters of Trout Unlimited.
Donna spends her free time reading sustainability related books, but her real passion is food – sustainable and secure – for all Ontarians. She can be found at her local farmers market, selecting fruits and vegetables to can for the winter.
Donna has been with her partner Joan for 34 years. She is a dedicated aunt to many nieces and nephews, and enjoys spending time in the kitchen with them.
As the candidate for the Welland riding, Donna would advocate for healthy local food systems, as well as social, environmental and economic sustainability. Donna welcomes your Green vote on October 6, 2011.
