InfoSome people spend their entire lives planning and positioning themselves for a campaign for political office; Jay Old is different. Jay is not a career politician or a political insider. Jay has spent his life focused on the things that matter most to him—getting an education, dedicating himself to his family, serving his community and rising to the top of his profession.

Jay has applied to put his talent and energy to work for you – the men and women of Texas in the Fourteenth Congressional District.

America is a nation of hope and opportunity. Jay believes in America’s greatness, but he also knows we face serious obstacles. By remembering where we came from we can rescue our future. For that reason, he is committed to the conservative values on which our nation was built.

Jay’s family has an over 80-year history in Jefferson County, Texas. He grew up in Beaumont, earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Texas A & M University and then his Law Degree from Texas Tech University School of Law in Lubbock. Jay spent the early part of his legal career at the firm of Andrews Kurth LLP in Houston, before returning to his hometown where he and his family—wife Ann Clary, daughter Helen Elizabeth (18) and son Jim (15)—have called home since 1996.

Jay Old has spent his entire twenty-three year legal career fighting lawsuits targeting our doctors, hospitals, building contractors, businesses and individuals. He bristles when people describe his home community a “Judicial Hellhole.” While he deeply believes in the right to jury guaranteed by the Seventh Amendment, he knows first hand the damages to business caused by class actions and other entrepreneurial lawsuits as well as the “lottery” mentality of personal injury trial lawyers.

Jay was President of the largest state civil defense organization of any state in the country. As a leader of the defense bar, Jay has supported the filing of “friend of court” briefs across Texas aimed at stopping activist courts and the unjust expansion of causes of action in Texas – and he has done so for free! Jay is proud to have been given the highest ratings by members of the Plaintiff Bar and Defense Bar alike for his ethics as well as his skills. Providing the vigorous defense guaranteed by our US Constitution is more than just Jay’s livelihood—it is his passion.

During their over 100-year Texas heritage, the Old family has owned small businesses and served as leaders of civic organizations and churches within their local communities. As an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman, Jay also values the beauty and vitality of our Texas natural resources.

Just because he is not a career politician does not mean that Jay Old does not have a history of involvement with political issues and causes. Jay is proud of his very first vote—it was for Ronald Reagan. He later worked for the Republican Party as an Election Judge while supporting George H.W. Bush as President. He has put his conservative ideals and passion for volunteerism to work as a member of the Chamber of Commerce Legislative Committee, with his local Rotary Club (where he is a third generation member) and as chapter counsel for the Associated Builders and Contractors (“ABC”) of Southeast Texas.

He has travelled to Washington with ABC to advocate for the construction industry, and participated in his local Chamber’s “Golden Triangle Days” programs in Austin. He has worked closely with local lawmakers including State Representative Allan Ritter and State Senator Tommy Williams on issues of importance to Texas as well as his hometown.

Jay was also honored to work with the Bush family during the opening of the Bush Presidential Library in College Station, Texas. He and Ann Clary have enjoyed volunteering in support of Barbara Bush’s “A Celebration of Reading” programs benefitting Mrs. Bush’s literacy foundation.

Jay’s leadership and volunteer spirit proves that it does not take a political office, a title or years of being a political insider to get things done—what it does take is a willingness to step forward, roll up your sleeves and go to work on the problems at hand, which is what Jay Old has done his entire life and what he will do for you in Washington.
