InfoIndustrial Designer & College Associate Professor

Biography:

John Kutsch was born in Chicago, Ill., and graduated from Loyola Academy in 1986. In 1990, he earned a bachelor's degree in industrial design from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He received an MBA from Loyola University in Chicago in 1994.

For the last decade, Kutsch has been a self-employed industrial design engineer, helping companies develop new products and automation. He specializes in consumer and medical products, and has designed a low-cost biopsy needle to detect breast cancer and medical products for AIDS victims.

Kutsch is also an associate professor at Oakton College, a two-year community college in Des Plaines, Ill.

This is Kutsch's second straight bid for the 16th District congressional seat. He captured about 35 percent of the vote in his 2002 bid to unseat incumbent Rep. Don Manzullo.

Kutsch's work as an engineer also figures into his hobbies. He has restored three houses and an abandoned historic fire station, and also restores and repairs cars.

Kutsch and his wife, Stephanie, live in Harvard, Ill., near the Wisconsin border.
