As dean, Hank Perritt has reaffirmed Chicago-Kent's commitment to excellence, significantly improving student quality, and reinforcing the faculty's commitment to cutting edge scholarship.
Throughout his career, he has been a change-agent. He brought labor and management together to save the rail system in the Northeast and Central states. He had the courage to lead reform of healthcare for retired coal miners. He is an innovator in education.
He launched major international initiatives in Bosnia, Kosovo, and elsewhere in the Balkans; in Ukraine; in Poland; in China; and in Mexico. He has proposed a concrete plan for U.S. involvement in the Middle East.
He has led efforts to explore the impact of information technology on law, public policy and education. He has emphasized the need to tie the academic and practical skills elements of professional education.
He is Vice-Chairman of the Global Chicago project, sponsored by the McArthur Foundation and the Chicago Community Trust, which is working to improve Chicago's position as a global city.
He is a member of the Economic Club and the Council on Foreign Relations, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations.
He is active in the Democratic Party nationally and in Illinois.
He served on Clinton/Gore Transition Team, in Gore/Lieberman 2000 Campaign; and supported Democratic political candidates in Illinois and elsewhere.
He is a member of international, federal, and state advisory groups on information technology and public policy, and on labor and employment law
He served as vice-chairman of a federal commission to reform health care delivery for retirees in coal industry
He actively participated in formulation of economic policy at the cabinet level in the Ford Administration
