InfoPrince William County supervisor (2003-2011)

John is a husband, father, public servant and policy expert who has called Prince William County home for over 23 years.

A political appointee in the Reagan Administration, Stirrup worked with a Democrat-controlled Congress to advance conservative policies. John also served as a Chief of Staff to Congressman Tom Coburn before moving to Northern Virginia, where he has worked as an accountant and commercial real estate broker.

In 2003, Stirrup was called to serve his community, and ran to represent the Gainesville district on the Prince William County Board of Supervisors. Elected twice, Stirrup was chosen to serve as Vice Chair in 2008, where he championed critical transportation and infrastructure projects, fought tax increases, and sponsored successful efforts to reduce illegal immigration and violent crime.

Stirrup made the town hall meeting a hallmark of his service - hosting 34 quarterly town hall meetings to listen and learn from his constituents about the issues facing our community. A believer in responsive, responsible government, Stirrup will put his experience to work in Richmond and deliver conservative results for Prince William County taxpayers.

After serving on the Board of Supervisors, Stirrup was appointed by Governor Bob McDonnell to a 5-year term on Virginia’s Commission on Local Government. He has remained active in the Prince William community, serving on the Board of Directors of the Manassas Battlefield Trust, the Heritage Hunt Golf Classic and the Hylton Performing Arts Center.

Stirrup and his wife Heidi have been married for 34 years, and reside on a small horse farm in the Rural Crescent.
