InfoHe was born on May 9, 1940, received his B.S. from Stillman College, and attended Alabama A&M University and Tennessee State University, University of Alabama. He and his wife, Emma Jean, are the parents of three children: Tony, De Lisa, and Emily. Representative Melton serves as Director of Human Resources for Shelton State Community College. A member of the First African Baptist Church, Representative Melton also is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, the NAACP, the Alabama New South Coalition, and the NAACP Sickle Cell Commission. He is also a retired member of the U.S. Army Reserve and is a 32nd Degree Mason.
