InfoDeidra Towns is a business development professional who brings decades of community leadership experience to her much anticipated candidacy for New York State Assembly from the 54th District of Brooklyn.

She has a long and distinguished record of working with community leaders. As Executive Director of the Versie B. Towns Foundation, Deidra was instrumental in partnering with educators, students and elected officials to raise funds that have given more children from East New York, Brownsville, Bushwick, Bedford-Stuyvesant and Cypress Hills the opportunity to attend New York City’s Specialized High Schools and Charter Schools.

Deidra demonstrated her commitment to improving community resources and services through her professional endeavors with the Kings County DA’s office and health care service companies, Care to Care and Yes Care. As a business development executive she acted as a coalition builder, forging alliances and cultivating relationships to help local entrepreneurs get established, grow their businesses and create jobs.

As a devoted mother of to her three children -- Kiara, Kristian and Dale -- Deidra cares deeply about the education crisis in New York City, and has been a tireless advocate for striking the right balance between improving public schools and offering parents more options for their children to attend charter schools. She is the daughter of veteran Brooklyn Congressman Edolphus and Gwendolyn Towns, and the sister of Assemblyman Darryl C. Towns.

Deidra is a lifelong member of the Cypress Hills/East New York community of Brooklyn. She also serves her community through membership in the Highland Park Lions Club and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Bedford Stuyvesant YMCA
