Info | WEMPLE, Edward, a Representative from New York; born in Fultonville, Montgomery County, N.Y., October 23, 1843; attended the common schools in Fultonville and Ashland Academy in Green County, and was graduated from Union College, Schenectady, N.Y., in 1866; studied law for a time and then engaged in the foundry business; served as president of the village of Fultonville in 1873; supervisor of the town of Glen 1874-1876; member of the State assembly in 1877 and 1878; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-eighth Congress (March 4, 1883-March 3, 1885); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1884; continued his former business pursuits; served in the State senate in 1885; elected comptroller of the State of New York in 1887, and served two terms; unsuccessful candidate for reelection; died in Fultonville, N.Y., December 18, 1920; interment in Maple Avenue Cemetery.
