InfoWilliam J. Fulton was born in Lynedoch, Ontario, Canada, January 14, 1875 and moved to Illinois at the age of 5. He received his preliminary education in the public schools of Waterman, Illinois and Hartford City, Indiana. He graduated from the Literature and Arts School of the University of Illinois and also from the Law School of the same institution. He was a member of the Varsity baseball team for four years; a member of Phi Delta Theta and Phi Delta Phi fraternities. He was admitted to practice law in Illinois in 1901 and served as City Attorney of the City of Sycamore and as Master in Chancery of DeKalb County. In March of 1923, he was elected Circuit Judge of the 16th Judicial District. In June 1930, he was appointed Judge of the Appellate Court, Fourth District, and was appointed to the Third District in 1933. He served as Circuit Judge and Appellate Judge until he was elected to the Supreme Court of Illinois in June 1942. He was Chief Justice from September 1944 to September 1945 and was re-elected in 1951. He died March 24, 1961 in Sycamore.
