Info | BURLEIGH, Henry Gordon, a Representative from New York; born in Canaan, Grafton County, N.H., June 2, 1832; attended the common schools; moved to New York in 1846 with his parents, who settled in Ticonderoga, Essex County; engaged in the mining of iron ore and in the lumber, coal, and transportation business; supervisor of the town of Ticonderoga in 1864 and 1865; moved to Whitehall, Washington County, N.Y., in 1867; member of the State assembly in 1876; delegate to the Republican National Conventions in 1880, 1884, 1888, 1892, and 1896; elected as a Republican to the Forty-eighth and Forty-ninth Congresses (March 4, 1883-March 3, 1887); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1886 to the Fiftieth Congress; died in Whitehall, N.Y., August 10, 1900; interment in Mount Hope Cemetery, Ticonderoga, N.Y.
