InfoMULLIN, Joseph, a Representative from New York; born in Dromore, County Down, Ireland, August 6, 1811; immigrated to the United States in 1820 with his parents, who settled in Watertown, Jefferson County, N.Y.; attended the public schools; worked in a printing office; attended Union Academy, Belleville, N.Y., and was graduated from Union College, Schenectady, N.Y., in 1833; principal of Union Academy and subsequently taught in the Watertown Academy; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1837; appointed examiner of chancery, supreme court commissioner, and commissioner in bankruptcy in 1841; prosecuting attorney of Jefferson County 1843-1849; elected as a Whig to the Thirtieth Congress (March 4, 1847-March 3, 1849); president of the village of Watertown in 1853 and 1854; associate justice of the supreme court 1857-1881 and also served as presiding justice; died at Saratoga Springs, N.Y., May 17, 1882; interment in Brookside Cemetery, Watertown, N.Y.
