Info | He was born on November 17, 1955, received his B.A. in Political Science from Auburn University, and J.D. from the Birmingham School of Law. He and his wife, Patti, are the parents of three children: Weldon, Forrest, and Turner Ashby. Representative Gaines works as an attorney and is a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, PCA. Distinguished as one of the Outstanding Young Men of America in 1989 and among the Who's Who of Birmingham in 1989, Representative Gaines is also a member of the Birmingham Bar and Alabama Bar Associations. He has served as a past Chairman of the Greater Birmingham Young Republicans, past Vice Chairman of the Jefferson County Republican Party and as a Commissioner of the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws. Representative Gaines currently serves as House Minority Leader.
