| Info | Isaiah Thomas is a coach, educator and mentor from Philadelphia. He currently serves as the Associate Dean of Students, Athletic Director and Head Boys Basketball coach at Sankofa Freedom Academy Charter School. In addition, Thomas is the Executive Director for Mature Cradle Inc., a non-profit organization in Philadelphia that focuses on educating youth and families through athletics and performing arts. At 26, he is the youngest candidate running for City Council At-large in 2011.
Thomas is also a former Legislative Assistant for State Representative Tony Payton Jr., where he worked primarily serving the families and youth of the Frankford community. During this time, Thomas was mentored by both Payton and Chief of Staff, Jorge Santana. Under their guidance, Thomas learned the difference he could make as an elected official with a servant-leader mindset. Thomas also served as the Youth Coordinator for Carson Valley Children's Aid and as Project Director for Frankford Freedom School, which is a free, inter-generational, reading enrichment, social action based summer program that provide services to youth in Philadelphia and across the nation.
For the past eleven summers, Thomas has been involved with Freedom School in various capacities. His roles include serving as a Junior Servant Leader, Servant Leader Intern, Site Coordinator and Ella Baker Trainer/Consultant for the Children's Defense Fund and Communities in Schools. He is a former Trainer/Consultant for United Way and has been employed by various other charitable organizations.
Thomas is alum of Penn State University, where he received his Bachelor's of Science in Psychological and Social Behavior with a minor in English. He recently received a Master's degree in Education from Lincoln University .
