Info | DOUBLEDAY, Ulysses Freeman, a Representative from New York; born in Otsego County, N.Y., December 15, 1792; received a limited schooling; learned the art of printing and worked as a printer in Cooperstown, Utica, and Albany, N.Y.; served at Sackets Harbor in the War of 1812; established the Saratoga Courier at Ballston Spa; moved to Auburn, N.Y., where he published the Cayuga Patriot 1819-1839; elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-second Congress (March 4, 1831-March 3, 1833); appointed inspector of Auburn Prison in 1834; elected to the Twenty-fourth Congress (March 4, 1835-March 3, 1837); engaged in agricultural pursuits in Scipio, N.Y., 1837-1846; moved to New York City and engaged in mercantile pursuits 1846-1860; died on March 11, 1866, in Bloomington, Ill.; interment in the Bloomington Township Old City Cemetery, Bloomington, Ill.
