David Scott has dedicated much of his life to improving the quality of life for Georgians. As a member of the State Senate, Senator Scott is best known as a fighter for public education, our environment, women�s health, and economic development. As a man of faith and conviction, David Scott authored of the Georgia state law that requires a moment of silence for reflection and prayer at the start of each school day.

Born in Aynor, South Carolina to working class parents, David learned at a young age the value of hard work and a good education. He attended elementary school in Scranton, PA; Junior High School in Scarsdale, NY; and high school in Daytona Beach, FL. From those experiences, he learned that America's greatest strength lies in the diversity of its people.

David became the first college graduate in his family as he worked his way through Florida A&M University graduating with honors in 1967. He went on to earn an MBA degree with honors from the prestigious Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania in 1969.

Family
David Scott has been married to the former Alfredia Aaron since 1969. They have two daughters Dayna and Marcye, and just last year became grandparents to a new baby boy, Kimani. David and Alfredia Scott have a commitment to improving their community. This commitment comes from the hope that they will make a better world for not only their children but every child who deserve a better world to live in. His extended family includes his close friend and brother-in-law, "Hammerin' Hank Aaron."

Record of Service:
Elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1974, David Scott quickly proved to those in the Georgia legislature that he was a force to be reckoned with. With his ability to reach out to leaders of diverse backgrounds, David hard-working style earned him the respect of both his peers and his constituents. In 1982, he was elected to the Georgia Senate where he currently chairs the powerful Rules Committee and serves as chair of the Atlanta-Fulton Senate Delegation. Throughout his 27 years in the legislature, he has proven to be a fighter for the working families of Georgia.

Accomplishments
� Improving Schools -- (School legislation) Authored the law that established early Intervention Programs that help students prepare for the test to pass from one grade to the next.

� Stronger Values-- Authored the state law that requires the observance of a moment of silence for reflection and prayer at the start of each school day in all Georgia public schools.

� Safer Communities-- Wrote legislation that requires a background check before gun purchases and makes it a felony for anyone to knowingly sell or provide a firearm to a minor.

� Protecting the Environment -- Authored the state law restricting the number of landfills in residential areas and protect underground water aquiters. Co-authored Georgia Clean Air and Water Law.

� Health Care-- Fought for stronger funding for breast cancer research and to place critical breast cancer treatment decisions out of the hands of insurance companies and into the hands of doctors and patients.

� Teen Pregnancy--Required Georgia schools to teach Sex Education and Aids Prevention to curb teen pregnancy and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

� Quality Health Care-- Spearheaded an effort to increase state spending for the prevention of breast cancer, prostate cancer, hypertension, strokes, and diabetes.

� Secured funding for lung cancer screening programs. Strong Advocate for Patients and Physicians Rights.

Professional
As a small businessman, David Scott knows what it is like to have to meet a payroll. Scott also understands the role of government in encouraging new investments and creating opportunities for businesses to succeed. In 1979, David Scott established Dayn-Mark Advertising and is currently the company�s owner and CEO. Dayn-Mark Advertising is a full-service advertising agency, which creates, produces and places television and print advertising. Dayn-Mark has received numerous awards and professional recognition for advertisement that have appeared in national mediums.
