InfoWARREN, Joseph Mabbett, a Representative from New York; born in Troy, N.Y., January 28, 1813; attended the local schools, and in 1827 entered Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at Troy; was graduated from the Washington (now Trinity) College, Hartford, Conn., in 1834; worked as a clerk in New York for a year and returned to Troy, N.Y., where he engaged in the wholesale grocery business for several years; entered the wholesale hardware business in 1840; one of the directors of the Bank of Troy and of the United National Bank of Troy, and president of the Bank of Troy 1853-1865; trustee of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; mayor of Troy in 1852; appointed as a commissioner of the Troy Water Works Company in 1855 and served until 1867, when he resigned; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-second Congress (March 4, 1871-March 3, 1873); was not a candidate for renomination in 1872; resumed his former business activities in Troy, N.Y., where he died September 9, 1896; interment in the Warren Chapel, Oakwood Cemetery.
