Info | (son of Ephraim King Wilson [1771-1834]), a Representative and a Senator from Maryland; born in Snow Hill, Worcester County, Md., December 22, 1821; attended Union Academy at Snow Hill and Washington Academy, Princess Anne, Md.; graduated from Jefferson College, Canonsburg, Pa., in 1840; taught school for six years; studied law; admitted to the bar in 1848 and commenced practice in Snow Hill, Md.; member, State house of delegates 1847; presidential elector on the Democratic ticket in 1852; because of impaired health abandoned the practice of law in 1867 and retired to his farm; examiner and treasurer of the school board of Worcester County in 1868; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-third Congress (March 4, 1873-March 3, 1875); declined to be a candidate for renomination in 1874; judge of the first judicial circuit of Maryland 1878-1884; elected as a Democrat in 1884 to the United States Senate and served from March 4, 1885, until his death; had been reelected in 1890 for the term beginning March 4, 1891; died in Washington, D.C., February 24, 1891; interment in Makemie Presbyterian Churchyard, Snow Hill, Md.
