InfoDan Adler is an entertainment industry veteran, new media pioneer, and community servant who has spent his 25-year career building businesses and building bridges—across disparate groups, between different businesses, and among people from all walks of life.

Dan has lived the American dream, and his life story exemplifies the drive he will bring to Congress. The son of a Holocaust survivor and a homemaker mother, Dan drove cross-country 25 years ago in pursuit of his dream of working in the entertainment industry. Dan started in the mailroom of Creative Artist Agency (CAA) literally the day after he arrived in LA, choosing a Venice walk street as the place he'd call home. Dan quickly rose through the executive ranks at CAA, then at the Walt Disney Company. As a Vice President at Walt Disney Imagineering and in a range of other jobs, Dan's love of innovation, his ability to find the inherent connections among otherwise independent entities, and his can-do attitude fostered the creation of new technologies and entertainment initiatives that have built and re-structured companies here in California and abroad.

A dedicated optimist, family man, and community activist, Dan has integrated civic responsibility into his professional work throughout his entire career. Dan remains inspired by the memory of his parents, their values, and what they overcame. Dan’s father—orphaned as a teenager and liberated from Auschwitz—went on to serve in Intelligence for the US Army before joining the mailroom of a Cleveland-based manufacturing company at which he ended up working for some 40 years.

"We live in the cradle of imagination and innovation, and we have a responsibility to send to Congress a Representative who can bring that imagination and creativity—along with new ways of looking for solutions—to the challenges our nation faces. Our Founding Fathers dreamt of a nation where citizen legislators would enter the political system to apply their knowledge and experience to the very real challenges of a representative government. As an entrepreneur and as a producer, I know how to bring together people, whose viewpoints often differ, in order to serve a common goal and to get things done."

Dan, a product of the Beachwood, Ohio Public School System, and his wife Jenna—herself a child of immigrants—reside in Los Angeles with their two sons, both of whom attend a Los Angeles Unified Public School where Dan and Jenna are very actively involved.

Professional Career “Consensus Builder, Innovator, Entrepreneur, Change Agent”

Regarded by many in the entertainment and technology fields as a change-agent, Dan has leveraged his business development, negotiating, and consensus-building skills to both launch and expand businesses. But Dan prefers to think of himself as a people person who just naturally makes the connections others miss. Dan’s innate ability to leverage relationships while respecting all viewpoints constantly allows for his entrepreneurial spirit to focus on what's next. As a founder, partner, principal, producer, executive and advisor, Dan’s reputation as the go-to resource for re-imagining everything from business models to large-scale philanthropic projects is the kind of experience Washington needs to address 21st century challenges.

In Dan’s positions as Vice President, Talent & Business Development at Walt Disney Interactive and Vice President, Creative Development for Walt Disney Imagineering, he helped evolve the industry through his role as a key architect of the Disney/ABC agenda at the advent of Internet and Television convergence. He also has spent much of his energy on the issue of how best to forge relationships that leverage advances in technology to serve the needs of the creative community, focusing on how the emerging marketplace can enrich our lives and our economy.

As an executive at CAA, one of the world's most prominent talent agencies, Dan built and led a 20-person task force focusing on New Media initiatives, incubating new businesses and structuring deals to bring together some of Hollywood's biggest stars and top talent with Fortune 500 companies, while also helping some of the most innovative emerging businesses in the new media landscape succeed.

Dan was founder and CEO of Fanista, a first-of-its-kind online shopping experience that combined early models of social networking with elements of direct-selling—along with integrating a critical charitable component. Prior to Fanista, Dan was Chief Strategic Officer of The Convex Group, a media network and entertainment company that brought to market new forms of distribution for entertainment and advertising. Adler also founded the media consultancy firm Media Eagles where he continues to bring new ideas and the latest technology to the entertainment industry.

Dan is the founder and principal of Media Eagles, a business development advisory firm that currently provides high-level strategic thinking to a wide range of global and Hollywood-based businesses. Through Media Eagles Dan has helped countless individuals and companies realize their business and artistic vision.

Policy Initiatives “Integrating Talent with Technology for the Common Good”

Through Fanista, Adler underwrote and co-produced a star-studded campaign focused on raising awareness of Nobel Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, who still was under house arrest in Burma at the time. Called "Burma: It Can't Wait," the campaign grew out of a decades-long relationship with the former head of Amnesty International USA. “Burma: It Can’t Wait” earned a long list of marketing and online awards for breaking new ground in the arena of viral and advocacy campaigns. The program is widely credited with generating considerable financial and public support for the release of Suu Kyi.

Dan has worked very closely with both Rock the Vote and with Declare Yourself on their respective outreach campaigns that focused on voter registration and getting out the vote. Dan also is an advisor to Causes.com -- the world's largest online philanthropic endeavor with a mission of empowering individuals to create grassroots communities called "causes" that take action on behalf of a specific issue or nonprofit organization.

Dan has been an outside-the-box thinker on trying to find solutions for the at-times seemingly intractable stalemate in the Middle East. Dan has spent years developing relationships on the ground and at the highest levels of government on both the Israeli and Palestinian side. Dan constantly tries to bring together activists, business people, journalists, and others in service to this cause. Dan believes that, however deep the divides between people may be, there is a way to tap in to the common elements that exist and to use those shared experiences to create meaningful dialogue.

Dan has seen, first-hand, how the right leadership and vision can improve the situation, even in the short-term. Dan’s views are formed through his deeply held personal beliefs, his extensive experience with key players on all sides, and, especially, the fact that his father was a survivor of the Holocaust who was liberated from Auschwitz.

Through his role as Special Advisor to the Executive Director of Seeds of Peace, Dan continues to promote opportunities for dialogue and create programs for young Israelis and Palestinians to engage with one another on substantive issues, with the belief that face-to-face interaction among future leaders can lead to real progress. Dan is also involved in a wide range of other charitable and political causes, with particular focus on educational reform, public health, youth activism and voter registration.

Community Service “Community Requires Dedication”

No matter how demanding his work life, Dan has kept a strong commitment to service and civic participation. Dan serves on the boards of directors of Ryman Arts, the Israel Policy Forum, and the Aleph Society. Dan also is on the advisory boards of Declare Yourself, the Human Rights Action Center, and the Harvard School of Public Health's Center for Health Communication. Dan is on the National Leadership Council of Communities in Schools, the President's Advisory Board of the Zimmer Children's Museum, the Emeritus Board of Teach For America/LA, and the Council of the REDCAT Theater.

Dan is a member of the American Jewish Committee's National Board of Governors and is a Wexner Heritage Foundation Fellow. Dan is also a Special Advisor to the Executive Director of Seeds of Peace.

Dan recently served a two-year appointment to the California Film Commission where, with his leadership, California passed the California Film & Television Tax Credit Program—a $500 million, five-year commitment that has helped curb runaway production by keeping film and television productions in California, thus ensuring that thousands of jobs remain in state, and thousands of workers remain closer to their families.
