InfoCollege Professor, Author & '98 Candidate

Dr. Theresa Bey Ph.D., has been a classroom teacher, an education professor, an author, and a school administrator for her entire career in education. Recently, a Senior Fulbright Scholar Award allowed her to lecture and conduct educational research abroad in Cyprus. She helped the Cyprus Ministry of Education and the Turkish Office of Education modify professional development programs for teachers and school administrators.

A former professor in the Department of Educational Leadership at the University of Georgia in Athens, she assisted in establishing the Teacher Support Specialist and Mentoring Program for Georgia's schools. Subsequent to that, Dr. Bey served on the faculty at Texas A&M University in Commerce and simultaneously supervised programs at the Dallas Teacher Education Center.

She has taught undergraduate and graduate college courses primarily in the areas of school leadership, instruction, and curriculum. Many of her scholarly publications have focused on teacher education and mentor education, with the most recent book among them, Making School A Place of Peace. Dr. Bey emphasized the need for children to learn peaceful behavior at school, at home, and in the community.

Appointed to chair the Association of Teacher Educators Commission on the Role and Preparation of Mentors, Dr. Bey led efforts to improve and increase mentor teacher programs nationally. Among her many professional honors, she received the Outstanding Leadership and Service Award from the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education for her work with the highly prestigious publications committee and editorial board.

She has been a speaker at local schools in Georgia, education conferences throughout the United States, plus international conferences in Brazil, China, Europe, Hong Kong, and Israel. Dr. Bey earned a B.A. degree from Montclair State University, a M.A. degree from Rowan University, and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Illinois as a recipient of a U.S. Department of Education Fellowship Award.
