Info | MONELL, Robert, a Representative from New York; born in Columbia County, N.Y., in 1786; pursued classical studies; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1809 and commenced practice at Binghamton, N.Y.; moved to Greene, Chenango County, in 1811 and continued the practice of his profession; member of the state assembly in 1814 and 1815; elected as a Republican to the Sixteenth Congress (March 4, 1819-March 3, 1821); again a member of the state assembly in 1825, 1826, and 1828; district attorney of Chenango County in 1827; elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-first Congress, and served from March 4, 1829, until February 21, 1831, when he resigned; circuit judge of the sixth circuit 1831-1845; clerk of the state supreme court in 1846; resumed the practice of law; died in Greene, Chenango County, N.Y., November 29, 1860; interment in Hornby Cemetery.
