Info | DUNWELL, Charles Tappan, a Representative from New York; born in Newark, Wayne County, N.Y., February 13, 1852; moved with his parents to Lyons, Wayne County, N.Y., in 1854; attended the Lyons Union School; entered Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y., in the class of 1873; at the close of his junior year entered Columbia College Law School in the city of New York, and was graduated in 1874; was admitted to the bar in 1874 and commenced practice in New York City; general agent for the New York Life Insurance Co., in 1889; unsuccessful candidate for comptroller of the city of Brooklyn in 1890; member of the New York Republican State committee in 1891 and 1892; elected as a Republican to the Fifty-eighth, Fifty-ninth, and Sixtieth Congresses and served from March 4, 1903, until his death in Brooklyn, N.Y., June 12, 1908; interment in Evergreen Cemetery.
