Info | COLLINS, William, (son of Ela Collins), a Representative from New York; born in Lowville, Lewis County, N.Y., February 22, 1818; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Lowville; district attorney for Lewis County 1845-1847; elected as a Democrat to the Thirtieth Congress (March 4, 1847-March 3, 1849); declined to be a candidate for renomination in 1848; moved to Cleveland, Ohio, in 1853 and continued the practice of law; also engaged in banking; served as a director of the Lake Shore Railroad and East Cleveland Railroad; affiliated with the Republican Party upon its organization in 1856; died in Cleveland, Ohio, June 18, 1878; interment in Lake View Cemetery.
