Info | Joan Lacey Mazauskas, 70, who was born in Irvington, NJ, died suddenly at her Miami Home on April 23, 2003. Very active in community affairs and local elections in the 1960's and 70's, Mazauskas herself became a political candidate in the 1977 Republican Primary for N.J. State Senate, losing in a very close race to a Seton Hall University professor. So close was the race, that one area newspaper declared Mazauskas the winner and had to later retract. She was employed for 17 years by Eastern Airlines in reservations and ticketing, both in New Jersey and here in Miami getting to travel to many faraway and exotic places. Ireland was always her favorite. After retiring in 1989 she wrote and published a book entitled "Mayday! Mayday! Eastern Airlines In A Tailspin!, an insiders account of that carrier's ultimate demise following a strike by its three labor unions. She is survived by her six children, Deborah Ahearn, Lauretta Evans, and MaryAnne Mazauskas of Altamonte Springs; son, Lawrence of Boca Raton, all Florida; and sons, George and Matthew of Howell, NJ. She is also survived by sisters, Pat Wyatt of Hazlet and Lynne Stires of Monmouth Junction, NJ, and 12 grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
