InfoNorth Plainfield Councilman Doug Singleterry moved to Somerset County at age 13, and has lived here ever since. His parents, Mary and Gary, are also proud Somerset County residents. He graduated from Drew University with a degree in economics and from New York Law School and today works as an attorney.

Doug has a long history of public service. While in law school, he worked at Bronx Legal Services assisting low income clients. He also interned at the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office. After the attacks of 9/11, Doug worked at the Manhattan Disaster Relief Center helping people whose jobs and homes were impacted by the disaster. After law school, Doug clerked for the Superior Court in the Juvenile Unit, Family Division. His work on cases involving illegal drugs, troubled children and broken families drove home his belief that children need a sense of community and healthy activities. As a Councilman, Doug is an active member of the Youth Services Commission and Municipal Alliance Committee.

Doug has also worked closely with the North Plainfield Economic Development Committee on initiatives such as expanding tax incentives for building upgrades and updating the sign ordinance. Doug led the initiative on passing pay to play reform dealing with both government contractors and redevelopers. Prior to the council, he served as a member of the Planning Board and Economic Development Committee.

Doug is Chapter Chair of the Tri-County Red Cross, which provides disaster relief services to twenty two municipalities. He received the Service to the Community Award from the New Jersey State Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division in 2007.
