As a businessman, civic leader and activist for the needs of our children, George Cordova has the vision and leadership to represent Arizona’s Congressional District One in Washington, D.C.

In many ways, George Cordova has lived “The American Dream." When George was five years old, his father Adam brought his extremely poor family from Mexico to the United States in search of a better life. His father started that life as a migrant farm worker and single parent in the rural community at the foothills of the White Tanks Mountains near Buckeye, Arizona. His father worked hard and developed strong union ties, first with the United Farm Workers, and now as a proud member of United Food and Commercial Workers Union. Later, George’s father re-married. Although neither he nor his wife Maria had more than a third grade education, they knew the value of higher learning in our society and impressed upon their children the importance of school.

During his childhood George learned the value of hard work by assisting his parents with migrant farm labor after school each day. Being the second oldest of seven boys, George felt the responsibilities of parenting early in life, helping to raise his younger brothers when his parents were forced to work long hours to provide for the family. George also helped subsidize the income of his father and financially cared for his mother’s medical expenses during her terminal bout with diabetes. George continues to feel the value and responsibility of family, single-handedly raising his youngest brother Adam and putting him through college.

George’s enthusiasm and dedication to community involvement began while attending Agua Fria High School. By his senior year, George had become the State President of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), a member of the State Student Council and the Inspector General for his school’s ROTC. In 1983 George won the George Washington Honor Medal, awarded by the Freedoms Foundation of Valley Forge for leadership, citizenship and patriotism. In 1986, during the Statue of Liberty’s One Hundredth Anniversary and Commemoration, George became a United States citizen! He describes the moment as “a dream come true,” and as the best day of his life.

Upon graduating from Agua Fria High School, he followed the hopes and dreams of his parents. George pursued his education at the University of Arizona and Arizona State University with course work at Thunderbird American Graduate School of International Management. While George was awarded scholarships and grants, he also had to work each step of the way to cover the expenses of higher learning. In the end, George realized his parents’ dreams and found his own aspirations through higher education.

Equipped with a strong education in management and business finance and obtaining extensive continuing professional education credits, George joined a venture capital fund where he quickly specialized as an asset manager. Soon after, George became an equity partner in the fund and continued to focus and advance in mergers and acquisitions, venture capital finance, initial public offerings, Internet financing and general start-up corporate finance.

George’s education served as a springboard for the wide expertise he has gained and success he has enjoyed in the business world. He has worked with both small and large companies, helping them grow and become profitable. George’s most rewarding successes have been in guiding small businesses struggling to get off the ground or stay afloat on a path to become successful enterprises. Because of his significant business experience, George understands both the needs and the importance of small businesses to our nation. As our Congressman, George will use his business skills to bring economic development - and new jobs - to the rural communities in our district where they are needed most.

George has committed himself to the youth of Arizona through more than 16 years of volunteer work. Each summer George returns to Prescott to mentor Arizona high school students at Camp Anytown, a program sponsored by the National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ). Camp Anytown is a statewide leadership program that focuses on building bridges between cultures by giving students the tools to stop the cycles of stereotyping, bigotry, racism and violence that occur in our society. In 1999, NCCJ awarded George its prestigious humanitarian award for his dedication to youth programs. By virtue of his years of dedicated service to Camp Anytown, George sits on the Board of Directors of the NCCJ, lending his voice to the important decisions that shape the organization’s youth advocacy programs. In Congress, George will continue to be a leader who fights to bring programs to our children and youth living in rural Arizona whose needs are so different from those that grow up in urban areas.

George’s distinctive upbringing, coupled with his business expertise and strong youth advocacy, makes him uniquely qualified to represent Arizona’s Congressional District One. Help us win this campaign, especially for our youth, our small businesses, and all of rural Arizona. As George states, “I want to lead from the heart and leave no one behind. I have been preparing for this step my whole life because everyone must stand for something – and it is my responsibility to give back to the greatness of America.”
