Info | CLARKE, Frank Gay, a Representative from New Hampshire; born in Wilton, Hillsborough County, N.H., September 10, 1850; attended Kimball Union Academy, Meriden, N.H., and Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H.; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1876 and commenced practice in Peterboro; member of the State house of representatives in 1885; appointed colonel on the military staff of Governor Hale and served in that capacity from 1885 to 1887; served in the State senate in 1889; elected to the State house of representatives in 1891 and chosen speaker of that body; elected as a Republican to the Fifty-fifth and Fifty-sixth Congresses and served from March 4, 1897, until his death in Peterboro, Hillsborough County, N.H., January 9, 1901; interment in Pine Hill Cemetery.
