Info | LAW, Charles Blakeslee, a Representative from New York; born in Hannibal, Oswego County, N.Y., February 5, 1872; attended the public schools; was graduated from Colgate Academy, Hamilton, N.Y., in 1891, and from Amherst College, Amherst, Mass., in 1895; studied law in Rome, N.Y., and at Cornell Law School, Ithaca, N.Y.; was admitted to the bar in Rochester, N.Y., in 1897; moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1898 and commenced the practice of law; elected as a Republican to the Fifty-ninth, Sixtieth, and Sixty-first Congresses (March 4, 1905-March 3, 1911); chairman, Committee on War Claims (Sixty-first Congress); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1910; resumed the practice of law in the Borough of Brooklyn, New York City; sheriff of Kings County 1912 and 1913; justice of the municipal court of the city of New York from January 1, 1916, to January 1, 1926; again resumed the practice of law in Brooklyn, N.Y., and also engaged in banking; died while swimming at his summer home on Kattskill Bay, near Lake George, N.Y., on September 15, 1929; interment in Maple Grove Cemetery, Jordan Onondaga County, N.Y.
